Timeline Event Types
The Contact Timeline records a fixed set of events against each contact. They fall into two groups: lifecycle events, about what happened to the contact, and engagement events, about your email and how the contact responded. Every event shows the date and time, in your account's time zone, and the newest are shown first.
The Shown as column gives the text you'll see in the timeline.
Lifecycle events
| Event | Shown as | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Contact added | Added to the contact list. | Contact List: the list the contact was added to, whether by hand, import, web form or the API, or by copying or moving a segment's contacts into the list |
| Contact edited | Contact updated | Contact list, and under Modified details each field that changed, with its From and To values, such as Status, Unsubscribed, Confirmed status, Format, Bounced or a custom field |
| Lists merged | Merge Two Contact List. | From: the list the contact was in. To: the list it moved to. See Merge lists. |
| List split | Split Contact List. | Contact List: the new list the contact moved to. See Split a list. |
Engagement events
| Event | Shown as | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Broadcast sent | A broadcast was sent. | Campaign: the scheduled campaign. Emails sent by an automation appear this way too. |
| Trigger email sent | A triggered broadcast was sent. | Broadcast: the trigger's campaign. See Triggers. |
| Drip email sent | A drip was sent. | Drip and Drip Group |
| Opened | Has opened an Email. | Subject, Broadcast and Campaign, or Drip Name for a drip email |
| Clicked | Has clicked on a link. | The word link opens the address that was clicked. Also Subject, Broadcast and Campaign, or Drip Name. |
| Bounced | The email has been bounced. | Broadcast, and Campaign or Drip Campaign |
| Spam complaint | The email has been marked spammed | Broadcast and Campaign |
| Unsubscribed | UnSubscribed From Campaign. | Broadcast, or Drip Name, and Campaign: the email the contact unsubscribed from |
Some mail apps load images automatically when a message arrives, which records an open whether or not anyone read the email. Treat Has opened an Email. as a hint, and Has clicked on a link. as much stronger evidence of interest.
Links in events
Where an event relates to something in your account, the timeline links to it:
| Detail | Opens |
|---|---|
| Contact List, From, To | The list's contacts |
| Broadcast | The broadcast |
| Campaign | The campaign's statistics under Statistics → Broadcast Stats |
If the item has since been deleted, the event stays in the timeline and shows a note instead of a link: Deleted from list, Deleted from Campaign, Deleted from Schedule Campaign, Deleted from Drip or Deleted from Drip Group.
What isn't recorded
- Bulk changes. Changes made with bulk actions or Bulk Update Contacts don't add Contact updated events.
- Deliveries. A sent event means Mumara ONE sent the email. Whether it was then delivered is shown in Delivery Logs, and a failure appears as a bounce.
- Transactional email. Email sent through a Bridge isn't tied to contacts, so it doesn't appear in any timeline.
