Dedicated IPs
A dedicated IP is an IP address that only your account sends from. Mailbox providers judge every sending IP by the mail that comes from it. On a dedicated IP that's only your mail, so your sending practices decide its reputation, and no one else's mistakes can affect it.
You order dedicated IPs from inside Mumara ONE and group them into Dedicated Pools. You then choose which pool each campaign and each Bridge sends through.
Dedicated IPs and Dedicated Pools are part of the plans that include dedicated infrastructure. On other plans your email is sent from Mumara's shared infrastructure, and you don't need to set up any IPs. Your plan also sets how many dedicated IPs your account can hold. See Mumara ONE pricing for what each plan includes.
When a dedicated IP makes sense
A dedicated IP works best when you send steadily and in volume. Mailbox providers build trust in an IP from a consistent sending history, so an IP that sends a little now and then never builds much reputation.
Consider dedicated IPs when you:
- send regularly enough for an IP to build and keep a reputation of its own
- want your reputation to depend only on your own lists and content
- want to keep marketing and transactional email apart, with each on its own pool
Viewing your IPs
Go to Setup → Dedicated IPs. The IP Addresses table lists every dedicated IP on your account.
- Use the Pools filter at the top right to show All IPs or only the IPs in one pool.
- Order IPs opens the order page, described below.
- Bulk Operations changes many IPs at once. It only appears if bulk operations are enabled on your account. See Managing Dedicated IPs.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| IP Address | The IP address, for example 203.0.113.10 |
| Pool | The Dedicated Pool the IP belongs to. Unassigned means it isn't in a pool yet, and you can click it to assign one. Pending Deletion means a removal request is open. Dashes mean a change to the IP is being applied. |
| Zone | The sending zone the IP belongs to. An IP can only join a pool in the same zone. |
| Status | A switch that enables or disables the IP for sending. See Managing Dedicated IPs. |
| DNS Status | Whether the IP's hostname is Confirmed, and whether a reverse DNS change is Modified (saved, not yet sent) or Under Review |
| IP Health | A 0–100 reputation score for the IP. Higher is better. |
| Sending Stats | Click the chart icon to see Total Sent, Total Delivered, Total Bounced and Total Complaints for the IP |
| Action | The IP's menu: Edit DNS, Assign this IP to a pool, Unassign this IP, Reassign IP and Request Delete. The options depend on the IP's state. |
While a change to an IP is being applied, a spinning gear replaces its Action menu. When the change finishes, a check mark appears.
To see the IPs of a single pool, you can also go to Setup → Dedicated Pools and choose Manage from the pool's Action menu.
Ordering dedicated IPs
You can start an order from either of two places:
- Setup → Dedicated IPs, then Order IPs
- Setup → Dedicated Pools, then Order IP in a pool's Action menu
Both open the Order IP Addresses page.
- In the Select IPs step, choose the Number of IPs. The list only goes up to what your plan allows.
- Fill in Provide a detailed reason why you need IPs? This field is required. Describe the email you'll send, roughly how much, and how your contacts signed up.
- Continue:
- If your account pays by card, click Next to go to the Payment step.
- Otherwise, click Submit. The request goes straight to our team, and you're taken back to Setup → Dedicated IPs.
Our team reviews each order by hand before any IP is assigned, and we have a strict policy against spam. A clear, specific reason speeds up the review.
Paying for an order
The Payment step shows the cards saved on your billing account.
- Choose a saved card, or choose Add New Card and enter the Name on Card, Card Number, Expiration Date and Card CVV.
- Check the summary: Price per IP Address, Your Current IP Addresses, New IP Addresses, Total IP Addresses and New IPs amount.
- Click Order. Back returns to the first step.
When you click Order, the payment is taken from the card and the order goes to our team for review:
- Processing Payment appears while the payment runs. Don't close the page.
- Payment Successful means the payment was taken. After a short countdown the app takes you back to your pools.
- Payment Failed means the card couldn't be charged. Click View invoice to pay the invoice in your billing account another way, or Cancel to stop here.
If no card can be charged but an invoice was created, the app takes you straight to that invoice so you can pay it.
For your invoices and payment methods, see Billing and invoices.
Following an order
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| A confirmation that your request was submitted, or Payment Successful | We've received the order. |
| A banner on Setup → Dedicated IPs saying a request is under review by our team | The order is waiting for review. The banner stays until the review is finished. |
| Underreview as a pool's status on Setup → Dedicated Pools | You ordered from that pool, and the order is still under review. |
| New IPs in the IP Addresses table | The order was approved. |
You're notified when an order is approved or declined.
When you submit an order, Mumara ONE also opens a support ticket for it, with the reason you gave, so you can follow the review. Please don't close that ticket. Our team closes it when the request is handled.
Messages on the order page
When you open Order IP Addresses, one of these messages may appear instead of the form:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| You have already been allocated or requested the maximum dedicated IP addresses your current plan supports | Upgrade your plan under Subscription in the user menu, or contact support. See Subscription and plans. |
| You already have a pending upgrade waiting for the payment | Click View invoice to pay it. To cancel that order instead, click Cancel Upgrade or Cancel Previous Upgrade. |
| You already have a pending upgrade waiting for the approval | A paid order is still under review. Wait for it to finish, or contact support. |
| Your order has been set as fraudulent by our automatic fraud check | Contact sales if you think this is a mistake. |
Cancelling an order
- An unpaid order: open Order IP Addresses again. On the pending-payment message, click Cancel Upgrade (or Cancel Previous Upgrade) to cancel the order and its invoice.
- A submitted or paid order under review: there's no cancel button. Reply on the order's support ticket or contact support, and our team will cancel it.
After your IPs arrive
- Put them in a pool. New IPs appear under Setup → Dedicated IPs. If an IP shows as Unassigned, assign it to a pool. An IP only sends once it's in a pool. See Dedicated Pools.
- Set reverse DNS, if you want your own hostname. Every IP comes with a working hostname. To use one on your own domain, see Reverse DNS.
- Pick the pool when you send. Choose the pool when you schedule a campaign or create a Bridge. See Choosing a pool for campaigns and Bridges.
Warm-up
A brand-new IP has no sending history, and mailbox providers are wary of large volumes from an IP they don't know. Mumara ONE warms up new IPs for you: sending to the large mailbox providers starts at conservative rates and speeds up as the IP builds a history. You don't need to set anything up.
During the first weeks:
- Large sends can take longer to go out than they will later.
- Send steadily rather than in rare, very large bursts.
- Start with your most engaged contacts. Opens and clicks help build a good reputation quickly.
Reputation monitoring
Mumara ONE watches the reputation of every dedicated IP for you:
- IP Health shows each IP's reputation score from 0 to 100. Mumara ONE checks it regularly. A new IP can show 0 until it has enough sending history to be scored. On Setup → Dedicated Pools, the Health column shows the average for each pool.
- Every IP is checked continuously against the major blocklists.
- Automated reputation rules watch bounce and complaint rates. When sending crosses a threshold, they can warn you or pause sending.
If an IP gets into trouble, you can switch it off while you investigate. The other IPs in its pool keep sending. See Enabling and disabling an IP.
Removing an IP
You can't delete an IP yourself. Instead you send a removal request, and our team releases the IP.
- Go to Setup → Dedicated IPs.
- In the IP's Action menu, choose Request Delete.
- In the Delete IP dialog, enter a Reason, then click Send Request and confirm.
The IP shows Pending Deletion, and you can't change it until the request is handled. Once the request is approved, the IP is released from your account and disappears from the list. If it's declined, the IP goes back to normal.
To request removal of several unassigned IPs at once, use Bulk Operations → Delete IPs. See Bulk operations.
If the IP is the only one in its pool, add or move another IP into that pool first. Otherwise the campaigns and Bridges that use the pool are left without an IP to send from.
If you have questions about how removing an IP affects your subscription, contact support.
