Using the AI Builder
This guide takes you through creating an email with the AI Email Builder, from opening it to saving the finished email as a broadcast.
Open the AI Builder
For a new broadcast
- Go to Campaigns → Broadcasts and click Add New.
- Under AI Email Builder, click Use AI Builder.
When you click Save & Finish, a new broadcast is created with the email.
For a broadcast you've already saved
- Go to Campaigns → Broadcasts and open the broadcast.
- On the HTML Body card, click AI Builder.
The conversation is linked to that broadcast. When you click Save & Finish, the broadcast's HTML body is replaced with the email from the conversation. Its subject line, pre-header, name and other settings stay as they are.
If you've used the AI Builder on this broadcast before, your most recent conversation for it reopens, so you can carry on where you left off. Click New Chat to start again.
The AI Builder button appears on broadcasts that use the HTML editor. For a broadcast built with the Drag & Drop builder, use the AI button inside the builder instead. See AI Assistant in the Builder.
For a drip email
Open a saved drip email under Campaigns → Drip Campaigns and click AI Builder on its HTML Content card. Mumara AI designs one email for that step of the drip. Save & Finish replaces the drip email's HTML and takes you back to it. See Drip Campaigns.
The AI Builder screen
The screen has a chat panel on the left and the Email Preview on the right, with a top bar above them.
Top bar
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| History | Opens the Conversations drawer, where you resume, delete or clear saved conversations. |
| Tier drop-down | Chooses the tier for your next message: Mumara AI Fast, Mumara AI or Mumara AI Advanced. See AI Tiers. |
| Credit balance | Your AI credit balance, shown as … credits. It updates after every reply. |
| New Chat | Starts a fresh conversation. It appears after your first message. Your previous conversations stay in History. |
| Total: … credits used | How many credits this conversation has used so far. |
| Cancel | Leaves without saving: back to the broadcast or drip you came from, or to the editor choice under Add New. |
| Save & Finish | Saves the email in the preview. It appears once Mumara AI has produced an email. |
Chat panel
A new conversation opens with the heading Mumara AI Email Builder and four suggestions to start from: Product launch announcement, Newsletter template, Welcome email for new subscribers and Promotional sale email. Click one to send it as your first message.
Type in the box at the bottom, which reads Describe the email you want to create.... Your messages appear on the right of the chat and Mumara AI's replies on the left. Each reply shows how many credits it used.
Press Enter to send. Press Shift + Enter to add a new line without sending.
Email Preview
Every time Mumara AI produces an email, the preview on the right shows it exactly as it will render. Until then it reads No Preview Yet.
Create your first email
-
Choose a tier from the drop-down. The default, Mumara AI, suits most emails.
-
Describe the email. Be specific about what you want. For example:
Create a product launch email for our new wireless headphones. Use a dark blue and white colour scheme with an orange call-to-action button. Include a hero banner, three feature highlight cards, a customer testimonial and a footer with social media links.
-
Press Enter or click the send button.
-
Wait for the reply. You'll see AI is generating with a timer counting the seconds. Most replies take a few seconds; Mumara AI Advanced takes longer.
-
Review the preview. The reply in the chat describes the email, and the Email Preview shows it.
-
Ask for changes if needed:
Change the call-to-action button from orange to green, and add a 20% discount code section above the footer.
-
Repeat until you're happy with it.
-
Click Save & Finish.
Add images
Click the image button in the message box to open Add Image. It has two tabs:
- Upload: drag and drop an image, or click Browse Files. JPG, PNG, GIF and WebP files up to 5 MB are accepted.
- Search Free Images: search a library of free stock photos, for example business or fresh food, and click a photo to add it. Load More shows more results.
Added images appear as thumbnails above the message box and go with your next message. Mumara AI uses them in the email, so you can hand it your logo, a product photo or a design mockup to work from.
Mumara AI can also add stock photos by itself when an email needs one. Images you upload or pick are stored with your account's media, so they stay available after you send.
Use a web page as a reference
On Mumara AI Advanced, you can paste links to web pages in your message, for example your product page. Mumara AI reads up to three pages per message, uses their text to match your brand, products and prices, and can reuse their images in the email.
The pages must be public. On the other tiers, links in your message are treated as plain text, so describe what you want instead.
Write effective prompts
The more precisely you describe the email, the closer the first result will be.
Be specific
| Less effective | More effective |
|---|---|
| "Make an email" | "Create a product launch email with a dark blue theme, a hero banner, 3 feature cards and an orange call-to-action button" |
| "Write a newsletter" | "Create a monthly newsletter with a logo header, three article sections with thumbnails and a light grey background" |
| "Make a welcome email" | "Create a welcome email for new subscribers with a friendly tone, three numbered onboarding steps and a purple Get Started button" |
Give context
- Your brand: company name, industry and tone of voice
- Your audience: customers, prospects or your own team
- The purpose: a promotion, an announcement, education or an update
- The style: colours, and whether it should look minimal, bold, corporate or playful
Name the layout
Say which parts you want: header and footer, one, two or three columns, buttons with their text and colour, image areas, dividers and spacing, background colours.
Change one thing at a time
Rather than rewriting your whole request, ask for specific changes:
- "Change the button colour to red"
- "Add a testimonial section above the footer"
- "Make the header text larger"
- "Make it a single column"
- "Add alt text to all the images"
Personalize
Ask Mumara AI to personalize the email, for example to greet each contact by first name. It knows the contact fields, custom fields, spintax tags and dynamic content tags in your account and uses the right tag for each. It asks before adding personalization you didn't request. See Custom Fields, Spintax and Dynamic Content Tags.
Multi-turn conversations
Each message builds on the conversation so far. Mumara AI remembers your original request, every change you've asked for and the current state of the email, so you can refine it step by step without repeating yourself:
- "Create a sale announcement email with a red and white theme"
- "Add a countdown section at the top"
- "Change the discount from 20% to 30%"
- "Make the footer darker and add our address: 123 Main St, Suite 400"
Every message sends the whole conversation to Mumara AI, so very long conversations (20 messages or more) get slower, use more credits and can become less accurate. If that happens, click New Chat and describe everything you want in your first message.
Save & Finish
When the preview shows the email you want, click Save & Finish in the top bar. It saves the latest email Mumara AI produced, the one in the preview.
From Add New: a new broadcast
- A new broadcast is created with the email as its HTML body.
- The broadcast takes the conversation's title as both its name and its subject line.
- The broadcast editor opens, where you should:
- change the name and the subject line
- add a pre-header
- add a plain-text version
- make any final changes to the HTML
- send yourself a test
From a broadcast: the same broadcast, updated
- The broadcast's HTML body is replaced with the new email.
- You're taken back to the broadcast editor.
- The subject line, pre-header, name and every other setting stay as they were.
Conversation history
Every conversation is saved, so you can come back to it later.
Resume a conversation
- Click History in the top bar. The Conversations drawer opens.
- Each entry shows the conversation's title, which Mumara AI writes from your first message, the tier and how long ago it was last used.
- Click a conversation to reopen it. The tier drop-down switches to the tier it used.
When you opened the AI Builder from a broadcast, the drawer lists only that broadcast's conversations. When you opened it from Add New, it lists all your recent conversations.
Start a new conversation
Click New Chat in the top bar, or New Conversation in the drawer. Your previous conversations stay in History.
Delete a conversation
In the Conversations drawer, click the trash icon (Delete conversation) next to it. It's deleted straight away, with no confirmation, and can't be recovered. Broadcasts you already saved from it aren't affected.
Clear all conversations
- In the Conversations drawer, click Clear All.
- Confirm Delete all conversations? This cannot be undone.
From a broadcast, this deletes that broadcast's conversations. From Add New, it deletes all your Mumara AI conversations, including those from the Drag & Drop builder's AI Assistant and from drips. Broadcasts and drip emails you already saved aren't affected.
Tips
Get the best results
- Put the detail in your first message. A thorough first prompt often produces a usable email straight away, which also saves credits on follow-ups.
- Use Mumara AI for most emails. It's the best balance of quality and credits.
- Try ideas on Mumara AI Fast, then switch to a higher tier for the final version.
- Describe emails you like, for example "a clean, minimal receipt-style layout".
Save credits
- Be specific in your first prompt, so you need fewer follow-ups.
- Start a new conversation instead of extending a very long one.
- Use Mumara AI Fast for experiments and small changes.
- See AI Credits for what uses credits.
After Save & Finish
In the broadcast editor:
- Subject line. Replace the one taken from the conversation title, or click Generate with AI next to it for a suggestion based on your email.
- Pre-header. Switch it on and write one, or click Generate with AI.
- Text body. Click Convert HTML to Text, or Generate with AI for a cleaner plain-text version written by Mumara AI.
- Inspect with AI. Click it on the HTML Body card for a review of deliverability, design, content and accessibility, with Apply Fixes to correct what it finds.
- Send a test, then schedule it. See Broadcasts and Scheduling.
Generate with AI always uses Mumara AI Fast, and Inspect with AI always uses Mumara AI Advanced, whatever tier you last chose.
