AI Settings (Admin)
The AI Settings page allows administrators to configure and manage the Mumara AI Email Builder for their installation. This page is only available to administrators with the Commercial license.
Navigate to Settings --> AI Settings to access these options.
Authentication
Mumara AI uses your installation's license key to authenticate with Mumara's AI services automatically. There is no separate key to configure — if your license key is valid and active, AI requests are authenticated out of the box.
Your license key is the same key used to activate your Mumara installation. It is managed in Settings --> General Settings under the license section. No additional keys or credentials are needed for AI features.
Credit Balance Card
At the top of the AI Settings page, a credit balance card displays your current Mumara AI credit status. This information is fetched live from Mumara's servers.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Mumara AI Credit Balance | Your current available credits across the entire installation |
| Today | Credits consumed by all users today |
| This Month | Credits consumed by all users this month |
This card loads automatically when you visit the page. If it shows "N/A" or "Error," verify that your license key is valid and your server has internet connectivity.
When the credit balance reaches zero, AI features stop working for all users until credits are replenished. Monitor this regularly to avoid service interruptions.
Settings Reference
Enable AI Email Builder
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Enable AI Email Builder | Master toggle to enable or disable the AI Builder feature for all users. When disabled, the AI Builder option does not appear anywhere in the application. |
When toggled ON, the remaining AI settings become visible and the AI Builder appears as a builder option when users create new broadcasts.
System Prompt
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| System Prompt | Default instructions given to the AI for every conversation. Customize this with your brand guidelines, design preferences, and formatting requirements. |
The system prompt is included at the beginning of every AI conversation. It tells the AI how to behave, what design standards to follow, and what constraints to respect. If left empty, a sensible default is used that instructs the AI to generate responsive, email-client-compatible HTML.
System Prompt Tips
A well-crafted system prompt dramatically improves the quality and consistency of AI-generated emails across all users. Consider including:
- Brand colors: Specify your primary and secondary colors with hex codes
- Brand fonts: Mention preferred font families
- Logo URL: Provide the URL to your logo so the AI can include it in email headers
- Email width: Specify your standard email width (typically 600px)
- Email client requirements: Mention any specific compatibility requirements (e.g., "Must render correctly in Outlook 2019 and Gmail")
- Design style: Describe your brand's visual style (minimal, corporate, playful, bold)
- Content guidelines: Tone of voice, language, any do's and don'ts
Example system prompt:
You are an email designer for Acme Corp. Use our brand colors: primary #1a73e8, secondary #34a853, accent #fbbc04. All emails should be 600px wide, responsive, and compatible with Outlook and Gmail. Use the Inter font family with Arial as fallback. Include our logo (https://acme.com/logo.png) at the top of every email. Use a clean, modern design with plenty of white space. Tone should be professional but approachable.
Available AI Tiers
Each tier is displayed as a card with a name and description. Use the checkboxes to enable or disable individual tiers:
| Tier | Description |
|---|---|
| Mumara AI Fast | Fastest and most affordable option. Ideal for brainstorming ideas, generating quick drafts, subject lines, and simple text emails. Responds in 1-3 seconds. |
| Mumara AI | Recommended for everyday use. Delivers high-quality responsive HTML emails with a great balance of speed, quality, and cost. Best for newsletters, promotions, and most email tasks. |
| Mumara AI Advanced | Premium tier for complex, high-stakes campaigns. Produces the highest quality output with sophisticated layouts. Best for product launches, investor updates, and campaigns where quality is critical. Uses more credits. |
Disabled tiers will not appear in the AI Builder's tier selector dropdown. Use this to control which tiers your users can access:
- Enable all three for maximum flexibility
- Enable only Balanced for a simplified experience at moderate cost
- Disable Fast if you want to ensure minimum quality standards
- Disable Advanced if you want to prevent high-cost requests
At least one tier must be enabled for the AI Builder to function.
For a detailed comparison of tiers, see AI Tiers.
Credit Usage Guide
The AI Settings page includes a built-in Credit Usage Guide that shows the credit value and approximate costs per task. This helps you understand what each AI operation costs before configuring your markup.
Credit Value
$1.00 USD = 1,000 Mumara AI Credits
Each credit is worth $0.001 USD. This rate is displayed prominently on the settings page for easy reference.
Approximate Credit Costs
The following table is shown on the settings page and provides base credit ranges for common tasks:
| Task | Fast | Balanced | Advanced |
|---|---|---|---|
| Generate subject lines | 1 – 2 | 3 – 5 | 10 – 15 |
| Plain text email | 2 – 4 | 6 – 10 | 20 – 35 |
| Full HTML email | 3 – 8 | 10 – 20 | 35 – 80 |
| Complex multi-section email | 5 – 12 | 15 – 30 | 50 – 120 |
| Follow-up refinement | 2 – 5 | 8 – 15 | 25 – 60 |
These are base costs before any user markup is applied. Actual costs vary based on prompt length and response size. The User Credit Markup (see below) is applied on top of these base costs.
AI Permissions
Mumara AI uses a modular, tag-based permission system that lets you control which AI features each user role can access. Permissions are configured in the user role settings under the Mumara AI parent category.
| Permission Tag | Description |
|---|---|
| AI Broadcast Chat | Access to AI chat when creating and editing broadcasts |
| AI Builder Chat | Access to AI chat inside the Drag & Drop email builder |
| AI Drip Chat | Access to AI chat when creating drip campaign emails |
| AI Assistants | Access to general AI assistant features |
These permissions are independent — you can enable any combination for each user role. For example, you might grant a role access to AI Broadcast Chat but not AI Builder Chat.
Permissions are managed in Users --> User Roles. Select a role to edit and look for the Mumara AI section in the permissions tree. See User Roles for details on configuring permissions.
User Credit Markup
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| User Credit Markup % | Percentage markup charged to users above your actual Mumara AI credit cost. Default: 50%. |
This setting allows you to charge users more than what each AI request costs at the Mumara level. The markup is applied to every AI request made by every user.
How the calculation works:
User cost = Mumara cost x (1 + Markup% / 100)
Examples with a 10-credit Mumara cost:
| Markup % | User is Charged |
|---|---|
| 0% | 10 credits |
| 25% | 13 credits |
| 50% (default) | 15 credits |
| 100% | 20 credits |
| 200% | 30 credits |
Set to 0% if you do not want to apply any markup (users are charged at cost). The maximum allowed value is 500%.
Suggested markup by use case:
| Scenario | Suggested Markup |
|---|---|
| Internal team use (no monetization) | 0% |
| Cost recovery with small buffer | 20 – 30% |
| Standard commercial markup | 50% (default) |
| Premium AI service offering | 100 – 200% |

- Track overall consumption: Monitor daily and monthly usage trends
- Plan credit purchases: Purchase additional credits before the balance runs out
- Identify unusual usage: Spot unexpected spikes in credit consumption
When Credits Run Out
When your Mumara AI credit balance reaches zero:
- All AI Builder requests across all users will fail with an "Insufficient credits" error
- No other Mumara features are affected — email sending, contact management, and all other functionality continues normally
- Previously generated emails and saved conversations are preserved
- AI features resume immediately once credits are replenished
Free Credits
Every Mumara license and product edition includes a number of free AI credits. The amount of free credits varies depending on your license type and product edition. These credits are available immediately when you enable Mumara AI.
Purchasing Credits
You can purchase additional AI credits in two ways:
- From AI Settings: Click the Purchase Credits button on the credit balance card, select a predefined amount ($5, $10, $25, $50, $100, or $500) or enter a custom amount, and complete the purchase. Credits are added to your balance immediately.
- From the Billing Panel: Visit the Mumara Billing Panel to purchase credits, view your billing history, and manage your account.
Troubleshooting
AI Builder Not Appearing for Users
Cause: AI is not enabled or the license does not support it.
Solution:
- Verify that Enable AI Email Builder is toggled ON in Settings --> AI Settings
- Verify that you have a Commercial license
