Using the AI Builder

This guide walks you through the complete process of creating an email with the AI Email Builder — from opening the interface to saving your finished email as a broadcast.

Opening the AI Builder

From the Builder Selection Screen

  1. Navigate to Campaigns --> Broadcasts
  2. Click Add New
  3. On the builder selection screen, click Use AI Builder

This opens the AI Builder in standalone mode. When you click Use This Email, a new broadcast will be created automatically.

From an Existing Broadcast

  1. Navigate to Campaigns --> Broadcasts
  2. Open an existing broadcast for editing
  3. Click the AI Builder button

This opens the AI Builder in linked mode. The AI conversation is connected to that specific broadcast. When you click Use This Email, the broadcast's HTML content is updated directly instead of creating a new broadcast.

The AI Builder Interface

The AI Builder uses a split-screen layout with several key areas:

Left Panel: Chat Conversation

The chat panel is where you communicate with Mumara AI. Your messages appear on the right side of the chat, and AI responses appear on the left. The full conversation history is visible and scrollable.

Right Panel: Live Email Preview

Every time the AI generates an HTML email, the preview panel updates to show exactly how the email will look. This gives you instant visual feedback without leaving the builder.

Top Bar

The top bar contains the following controls:

ElementDescription
Back ButtonReturns to the broadcast editor (linked mode) or the builder selection screen (standalone mode)
HistoryOpens the conversation history drawer to browse and resume previous conversations
Tier SelectorDropdown to choose between available AI tiers (Mumara AI Fast, Mumara AI, Mumara AI Advanced)
New ChatStarts a fresh conversation (appears after your first message)
AI CreditsDisplays your current credit balance (visible when credits are enabled)

Bottom: Message Input

A text input field with a Send button. Type your request here and press Enter or click Send to submit it.

The message input area also includes an image upload button that lets you attach images to your messages. Click the button or drag and drop an image file to attach it. A thumbnail preview appears before sending. This is useful for sharing design mockups, screenshots, or brand assets that you want the AI to reference when generating your email.

tip

Press Enter to send your message. Use Shift + Enter to add a new line without sending.

Creating Your First Email

Follow these steps to generate your first AI-powered email:

  1. Select your preferred tier from the dropdown in the top bar. The default is Mumara AI (Balanced). See AI Tiers for guidance on choosing a tier.

  2. Type your request in the message input field. Be descriptive about what you want. For example:

Create a product launch email for our new wireless headphones. Use a dark blue and white color scheme with an orange call-to-action button. Include a hero banner area, three feature highlight cards, customer testimonial, and a footer with social media links.

  3. Click Send or press Enter.

  4. Wait for the AI to generate your email. A thinking indicator with an elapsed time counter appears while the AI works. Depending on the tier, this typically takes 1 to 15 seconds.

  5. Review the preview. The generated email appears in the chat panel (as a text description) and the right-side preview panel updates to show the rendered HTML email.

  6. Request changes if needed. Type a follow-up message describing what you want adjusted. For example:

Change the call-to-action button color from orange to green. Also, add a 20% discount code section above the footer.

  7. Repeat until you are satisfied with the result.

  8. Click Use This Email when the email looks the way you want it.

Writing Effective Prompts

The quality of your AI-generated email depends heavily on how you describe what you want. Here are tips for writing effective prompts:

Be Specific

Vague requests produce generic results. The more detail you provide, the closer the first result will be to what you envision.

Less EffectiveMore Effective
"Make an email""Create a product launch email with a dark blue theme, hero banner, 3 feature cards, and an orange CTA button"
"Write a newsletter""Create a monthly newsletter template with a company logo header, three article sections with thumbnails, and a light gray background"
"Make a welcome email""Create a welcome email for new SaaS subscribers with a friendly tone, onboarding steps numbered 1-3, and a purple Get Started button"

Include Context

Mention details that help the AI understand your brand and audience:

  • Your brand: Company name, industry, tone of voice
  • Your audience: Customers, prospects, internal team
  • The purpose: Promotion, announcement, education, transactional
  • Design preferences: Colors, style (minimal, bold, corporate, playful)

Reference Design Elements

Be explicit about the layout and visual elements you want:

  • Headers and footers
  • Column layouts (single column, two-column, three-column)
  • Buttons with specific text and colors
  • Image placeholder areas
  • Dividers and spacing
  • Background colors and gradients

Iterate Incrementally

Instead of rewriting your entire request, ask for specific changes:

  • "Change the button color to red"
  • "Add a testimonial section above the footer"
  • "Make the header text larger"
  • "Remove the second column and make it single-column"
  • "Add alt text to all image placeholders"

Multi-Turn Conversations

The AI Email Builder supports multi-turn conversations, meaning each follow-up message builds on the context of everything said previously in the conversation. The AI remembers:

  • Your original request and all design details
  • Every change you have asked for
  • The current state of the email

This lets you refine the email progressively without repeating yourself. For example:

  1. "Create a sale announcement email with a red and white theme"
  2. "Add a countdown timer section at the top"
  3. "Change the discount from 20% to 30%"
  4. "Make the footer darker and add our address: 123 Main St, Suite 400"

Each message builds on the previous result, so you get closer to your desired email with every iteration.

info

Very long conversations (20+ messages) may become slower or less accurate as the context grows. If this happens, start a new conversation and provide a detailed description of what you want in your first message.

Using the Generated Email

When you are satisfied with the preview, click the Use This Email button in the preview panel header.

Standalone Mode (New Broadcast)

If you opened the AI Builder from the builder selection screen (not linked to an existing broadcast):

  1. Click Use This Email
  2. A new broadcast is created with your AI-generated HTML content
  3. You are redirected to the broadcast editor where you can:
    • Edit the subject line
    • Add a preheader
    • Modify the HTML if needed
    • Add a plain text version
    • Configure settings and send a test

Linked Mode (Existing Broadcast)

If you opened the AI Builder from an existing broadcast:

  1. Click Use This Email
  2. The existing broadcast's HTML content is updated with the AI-generated email
  3. You are redirected back to the broadcast editor
  4. All other broadcast settings (subject, preheader, name, group) remain unchanged

Conversation History

The AI Builder saves all your conversations so you can resume them later.

Browsing History

  1. Click the History button in the top bar
  2. A side drawer opens showing your previous conversations
  3. Each entry shows the conversation title (based on your first message), the tier used, and how long ago it was active
  4. Click any conversation to resume it

Starting a New Conversation

Click the New Chat button in the top bar to start a fresh conversation. This does not delete your previous conversations — they remain accessible through the History drawer.

Campaign-Linked Conversations

When you open the AI Builder from a specific broadcast, the conversation history is filtered to show only conversations linked to that broadcast. This keeps your history organized and relevant.

Deleting a Conversation

To remove a specific conversation from your history:

  1. Open the History drawer
  2. Click the delete icon next to the conversation
  3. Confirm the deletion when prompted

The conversation and all its messages are permanently removed. This action cannot be undone.

Clearing All Conversations

To remove all conversations at once:

  1. Open the History drawer
  2. Click the Clear All button
  3. Confirm the action

This permanently deletes all conversations in the current context (broadcast-linked or standalone). Previously generated emails that were saved to broadcasts are not affected.

Tips and Best Practices

Getting the Best Results

  • Start with a detailed first message — A comprehensive initial prompt often produces a usable email in one shot, saving credits on follow-up refinements
  • Use the Balanced tier for most tasks — It offers the best combination of quality and cost for everyday email creation
  • Start with Fast for brainstorming — Use Mumara AI Fast to quickly explore ideas, then switch to a higher tier for the final version
  • Reference existing emails — Describe emails you have seen and liked: "Create something similar to a Stripe receipt email" or "Use an Apple product announcement style"

Saving Credits

  • Be specific in your first prompt to reduce the number of follow-up messages needed
  • Start new conversations instead of extending very long ones
  • Use Mumara AI Fast for quick experiments and simple tasks
  • See AI Credits for detailed cost information

After Using the Email

Once you click Use This Email and are redirected to the broadcast editor:

  • Review the HTML — Make any final manual adjustments in the editor
  • Add a subject line — The AI builder focuses on email body content
  • Add a preheader — Write preview text to complement your subject line
  • Create a plain text version — Use the Copy as Text button to generate one from the HTML
  • Send a test — Always preview and test before scheduling
